From the Preface
Why would some lawyer write a book that’s about his dog emailing her breeder? Well it’s really because Boo taught me so much about what’s important and what’s not that I thought everyone should know that there’s hope even for those of us who have spent generations failing to appreciate the bottom line of life.
While I write this preface Boo is with me in the library, snuggled in her chair hanging out with me as always. Isn’t that really the simple lesson that dogs teach us? For love and companionship we humans will adapt to anyone and anything. At the end of the day, we’re pack animals too and like dogs we will change to accommodate our surroundings and our companions so long as they make our lives more worthwhile even if that companionship requires some inconvenience and sacrifice.

From Letters to Kate
Dear Kate,
Today Dad took me to an arts and street fair. He did it early so there wouldn’t be other dogs there. I got shampooed and brushed and I looked pretty good if I say so myself. Dad took my pink leash and collar and we went walking down Main Street while everyone oo’d and ahh’d over me…
The best was when Dad bought me my own bottle of Figi water. He cupped his hand poured the water in it and I drank from his hand as it came from the bottle like a water cooler. It was a hot day and we were both thirsty but Dad gave all of it to me. I licked him a lot for that.
Dear Kate,
It's been some time since I wrote to you last. Plus, I am growing so fast Dad says that between meals I grow an inch. Dad has been home with me after work every day and wrestles with me every chance he gets. He always wins even when I try to bite him but it's just a joke thing and he tickles me and closes my mouth then I growl...
Well Kate I'm growing up pretty fast and I want to share something special with you. Even when I'm bad, Dad puts his nose right up to mine and talks to me. Do you know what he tells me? He tells me he loves me.
